FC Shakhtar Donetsk will hold a digital collectibles auction with the help of Binance
The debut of an NFT collection of FC Shakhtar Donetsk, one of Ukraine's best professional soccer teams, was announced Friday by Binance NFT, the world's biggest crypto exchange's marketplace for non-fungible tokens. Shakhtar will sell nine autographed jerseys as part of its 'Football for Peace' program next week.
The initiative's main purpose is to benefit Ukrainian youngsters who have been harmed by war conflicts in their country by staging friendly matches and giving ticket profits. Binance said in a blog post that the auction would begin on May 7 and will run for a week.
The trade portal stated, "The highest bidders will each get a special edition FC Shakhtar Donetsk jersey with the 'Football for Peace' insignia on it." All Shakhtar players and coaches, including Ukrainian stars Taras Stepanenko, Mikhail Mudryk, and Andriy Pyatov, will sign the jerseys.
Furthermore, 10,000 NFT Mystery Boxes will be available for purchase at a price of 10 BUSD each. From Saturday, they will be accessible on the Binance NFT Marketplace. The Shakhtar Social Fund and the Binance Charity Relief Fund will receive proceeds from the auction and Mystery Box sales. The funds will be used to assist Ukrainians who are in need of humanitarian aid.
"We are committed to assisting the Ukrainian community in overcoming this catastrophe." Because of the openness and accountability it gives, blockchain is great for this," said Sergei Palkin, CEO of FC Shakhtar Donetsk. "Digital assets, especially NFTs, have played an essential role in giving rapid, efficient, and easy support to individuals in need throughout the continuing situation in Ukraine," Helen Hai, head of Binance NFT, stated.
Ukraine has been increasingly reliant on cryptocurrency donations since Russia started its military invasion in late February, and has already received millions of dollars in digital currencies to pay its defense and tackle humanitarian issues. These activities have received or offered assistance from members of the crypto community and other nations.
Shakhtar was founded in Donetsk, Ukraine's easternmost city, which is now under the hands of pro-Russian separatists. The football club was obliged to relocate its headquarters to Kyiv due to the military fighting in the Donbas area. Shakhtar has been playing their home matches at Lviv, Kharkiv, and Kiev since 2014.
