CoinMarketCap, a website that tracks cryptocurrency prices, is venturing into the realm of reality TV with the launch of a new competition series titled "Killer Whales." The show is inspired by the popular TV program "Shark Tank."

Teaming up with Web3 entertainment company Hello Labs, CoinMarketCap is set to launch a new program where entrepreneurs can pitch their projects to a panel of judges known as the "Killer Whales." The judges consist of entrepreneurs, influencers, and founders of Web3 companies. Hello Labs, which was founded by Paul Caslin, producer of the MTV VMA Awards, is a partner in this venture.

“Killer Whales is a fun and exciting opportunity to bring the entrepreneurial energy of the Web3 space to homes all over the world," said Jonathan Isaac, chief marketing officer at CoinMarketCap, in a press release.

Starting from May 2nd, individuals can apply to Hello.one and CoinMarketCap to participate in the "Killer Whales" competition. The selected applicants will undergo multiple rounds of interviews held in Hollywood, California. Filming for the show is scheduled to commence in June, and it will be available for viewing on major streaming platforms and Hello Labs' on-demand Hello TV service.

"Our aim is to open the door to the next billion users into Web3 by entertaining and educating them on all things crypto," said Hello Labs’ CEO Sander Gortjes in a statement.

In recent months, there has been a surge in Web3-related television shows, indicating the increasing interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency among the general public. One such show is "Krapopolis," a new series co-created by Dan Harmon, the co-creator of the popular animated series "Rick and Morty." Set to premiere on Fox in 2023, "Krapopolis" has already launched its first non-fungible token (NFT) collection, called "10,420 Krap Chicken." The NFTs give holders the ability to vote on show elements, access exclusive content, and earn rewards. The success of these shows demonstrates the versatility and potential of blockchain technology in various industries, including the entertainment industry.

Several NFT collections are expanding their intellectual property (IP) into other forms of media. The NounsDAO, a community in the Web3 space, has greenlit proposals for a full-length movie and TV series based on their NFT collection. Similarly, the Doodles NFT collection, known for its vibrant and playful designs, has acquired the Emmy-nominated animation studio Golden Wolf, with plans to expand the Doodles universe through narrative storytelling. These initiatives demonstrate how NFTs are evolving beyond their initial use as collectibles and are becoming a valuable asset for creating and developing multimedia franchises.
