Sports Illustrated, a sports publication based in the United States, is set to release an NFT ticketing platform constructed on the Polygon network, which is an Ethereum scaling solution.
Sports Illustrated's ticketing platform, SI Tickets, has collaborated with ConsenSys, the Ethereum software company that developed the MetaMask crypto wallet, to create "Box Office". According to the announcement made on Tuesday, this will be the first-ever all-in-one NFT ticketing service, enabling event organizers, owners, and promoters to integrate additional engagement features such as highlights, collectibles, and offers into their tickets using a feature called "Super Ticket".
According to a press release, David Lane, the CEO of SI Tickets, stated that the marketplace's objective from the start was to "disrupt the primary ticket market".
“Blockchain is the future of ticketing, and now owners, promoters, hosts and attendees have access to an advanced ticketing experience that transforms the antiquated barcode into engaging and collectible content," he stated.
The utilization of NFTs as tickets for live events has been widely regarded as a promising mass-market application of Web3 technology. With a well-known brand like Sports Illustrated entering this space, the NFT ticketing industry could receive a significant boost in momentum.
“Blockchain technology offers significant benefits for consumers, particularly ticketing, including enhancing payment security, and eliminating scalping and fraud,” said Brian Trunzo, Head of Business Development, North America, for Polygon Labs, in a press release, who added that this launch would help grow consumer adoption.
